$1.275 Million Turf Field at St. Charles North Wins Committee Vote of Approval

Next up, the District 303 school board will vote on the artificial turf field.

The District 303 school board is poised to vote later this month on a $1.2 million artificial turf field at St. Charles North High School, which is meant to address many years of failed attempts to keep up with the school’s current natural grass field.

A school board committee tentatively agreed Wednesday night to move forward with plans for the turf field, according to the Daily Herald. Wisconsin-based Rettler Corp. presented the pros and cons of an artificial turf versus a natural grass field with the turf field winning their vote of approval as it requires less maintenance and allows for more use.

The school district could get 1,637 hours of use out of the $1.275 million turf field each year -- a substantial win over a grass field that, with improvements, would still only allow 132 hours of use each year, according to the Daily Herald. The added usage could allow the school district to rent the field to other schools and organizations.
