3 New Coronavirus Cases Reported At St. Charles Schools

Students and staff who were in prolonged close contact with those who tested positive must quarantine at home, District 303 officials said.

ST. CHARLES, IL — After reporting three coronavirus cases during its first week with students and staff back in classrooms, St. Charles Community Unit District 303 told parents of an additional three cases just one day into its third week of the new school year.

District 303 officials sent letters to parents Monday notifying them that two people at Thompson Middle School and one at Lincoln Elementary School tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle.

Any student or employee will be required to quarantine if they spent at least 15 minutes within 6 feet of one of the people who tested positive, the report states.

The district is deep-cleaning and disinfecting areas of the school where those who tested positive spent time, officials said.

As of Monday, District 303 officials have notified parents that six people have tested positive for the coronavirus — three at Thompson, two at Fox Ridge Elementary and one at Lincoln — but they have not disclosed whether they were students or staff members.

Elementary and middle school students in District 303 returned to classrooms Aug. 19, just two days before officials first notified parents of coronavirus cases within the district.

High schools are operating remotely until at least Labor Day, with the district trying to stagger the return of students and employees.
