Congregation Kneseth Israel Announces High Holiday Observance Schedule

Services will mark the year 5772 in the Hebrew calendar.

Congregation Kneseth Israel announces its schedule of services for the upcoming observance of the High Holy Days for year 5772 in the Hebrew calendar.

Services for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 (with a special children’s service at approximately 10:30 a.m.) and 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30. The Friday service will be abbreviated; concluding at 11:30 a.m.

Services for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 and 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, with Yizkor prayers said at approximately noon. Children's services will be held at 10:30 on Saturday morning.

A Break-the-Fast will follow the concluding Yom Kippur service which begins at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Rabbi Jonathan Kohn, the congregation's religious leader, will conduct this year's services, which promise to be an engaging and participatory blend of traditional Jewish melodies and Hebrew and English readings. He will again be joined by Jack “Yankel” Falk, a nationally-known cantorial soloist from Portland, OR.

Except for the service on Friday, Sept. 30, tickets are required for admission, and new members are always welcome. For information about tickets or synagogue membership, call the synagogue office at 847-741-5656.
