Coronavirus Cases Surge In St. Charles During August
Nearly 40 percent of all positive tests among St. Charles residents throughout the pandemic have been recorded in August.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The total number of coronavirus cases in St. Charles has risen by more than 60 percent since the start of August, according to public health data.
By the end of July, 485 St. Charles residents had tested positive for the coronavirus. As of Wednesday, the city’s total case count was 788, an increase of 303 in less than four weeks, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

That means nearly 40 percent of all positive tests among St. Charles residents have been recorded in August.
The city saw its largest single-day increase in cases Aug. 16, when 42 were confirmed, public health data shows. That spike caused the city’s 7-day rolling average of new cases to hit 20 on Aug. 18, the highest it’s been throughout the pandemic.

Residents under the age of 30 represent 40 percent of the 788 positive tests recorded among St. Charles residents, but no one under the age of 30 has died after testing positive for the coronavirus, according to public health data.

The city has recorded just one coronavirus-related death among people under 60. At least four of the city’s 10 coronavirus-related deaths have been linked to long-term-care facilities, according to IDPH data.
Bars and restaurants in St. Charles will be forced to close by midnight under an executive signed this week by Mayor Raymond Rogina.
Kane County Taken Off Warning List For Coronavirus Restrictions
The executive order temporarily suspends all late-night liquor permits in the city, starting Friday. The city will refund all late-night permit fees that were paid by establishments.
