Girl Screaming For Help From Car Was 'Joking': St. Charles Police

The City of St. Charles said police confirmed the girl wasn't in any danger and is fine, but added they appreciate getting the 911 call.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles Police Department completed an investigation into a suspicious incident involving a young girl who was reported to be yelling for help out of a car window Thursday, according to the City of St. Charles. The City said Friday officers confirmed the girl wasn't in any danger, and is fine, but added they appreciate getting the call.

"The person who called this in did the right thing," a statement on the City of St. Charles, Illinois Government Facebook Page said. "We want to be sure everyone knows to call 911 if you ever witness anything suspicious. Thank you."

According to Kane County Chronicle, police responded to the 911 call at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday, as the caller reported a female described as being in her teens or early twenties, with blond hair and wearing a green sweater, was hanging out of a car window and had screamed for help. According to the news report, the incident reportedly happened in the area of South 2nd Avenue and East Main Street/Route 64, an email from St. Charles Deputy Chief Erik Mahan said. Kane County Chronicle added that according to Mahan, the girl involved has been identified and is a juvenile.

"She was with friends for a birthday celebration and was joking around," Mahan said in an email, according to the news report.
