H.S. Student From St. Charles Picked As National Merit Scholar

​On Wednesday, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this year's National Merit $2,500 scholarship winners.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Two Libertyville High School students have been selected as National Merit Scholarship winners.

On Wednesday, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this year’s National Merit $2,500 scholarship winners. The winners were selected from 15,000 finalists, according to a news release.

Jack William Morby of St. Charles, an Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy student, was among the students selected as a National Merit scholar. Morby is planning to pursue a field in computer science.

The winners were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools including the academic record; scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the Finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official, according to a National Merit Scholarship press release.
