Kane County Court Scales Back Operations Due to Coronavirus
Most criminal and civil cases be continued to dates after April 17, according to the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit in Kane County.
KANE COUNTY, IL — In order to protect the health and safety of the public and courthouse employees, Clint Hull, Chief Judge of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit in Kane County, ordered Monday morning that most criminal and civil cases be continued to dates after April 17, according to a news release from Sixteenth Judicial Circuit in Kane County. This decision was made after consultation with the Presiding Judges and offices of the County Board, State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Court Services, Circuit Clerk, and representatives of the private bar, the news release said.
The Kane County Courthouse at 100 South Third Street in Geneva), Kane County Judicial Center at 37W777 Route 38 in St. Charles, and Kane County Juvenile Justice Center at 37W655 Route 38 in St. Charles will stay open to hear any emergency motions and cases deemed essential, the news release said, adding that essential cases include but are not limited to in-custody criminal cases, order of protection hearings, juvenile delinquency, juvenile abuse and neglect, and emergency matters.
The Aurora Branch Court (1200 East Indian Trial Road, Aurora), Elgin
Branch Court (150 Dexter Court, Elgin), and Kane County Branch Court (530 S.
Randall Road, St. Charles) will be closed through Friday, April 17, and re-open
Monday, April 20, 2020. All bond call matters that were previously heard at the
Aurora and Elgin Branch Courts will be heard at the Kane County Judicial Center
until April 20, according to the news release.

Clint Hull said, in the news release. “We appreciate the cooperation we have received from everyone involved in the court system. We are doing our best to balance the needs of
protecting the public and our courthouse staff with keeping the courthouse open to
hear those cases that must be heard. We are focused on those cases that involve
individuals who are in-custody and those matters that are required for the protection of individuals and the public. I want to thank everyone for their understanding and patience. This is an unprecedented situation and we may need to make more changes in the days ahead.”
