LeRoy Oaks Forest Preserve Invites Residents On a Guided Hike

On Feb 25, Leroy Forest Preserve will be going on a guided hike to look for animals and study their habits and behaviors.

From Forest Preserve District of Kane County: Come out to LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve for a guided hike to look for signs of animals, on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 10-11 a.m.

At this free, Forest Preserve District of Kane County nature program, participants will learn about the habits and behaviors of native wildlife by the signs they leave. The “Tracks and Trails” program will help participants understand that every hike — be it a backyard stroll, or an expedition through one of the forest preserves — is packed with excitement and organic activity. The animals that exist all around us may not always be in plain sight, but they leave behind a myriad of fascinating clues to discover!

We will likely encounter the footprints of mammals such as deer, coyote, squirrel, etc, as well as see signs of deer browse, scat, and tree markings. There’s no way to know exactly what we’ll come across, but that is part of the fun.
