Man Facing Weapon, Stolen Vehicle Charges In St. Charles Crash
An investigation revealed a Kia the Aurora man was driving during the crash had been reported stolen out of Aurora earlier that day.
ST. CHARLES, IL — An Aurora man's bail has been set at $250,000 bail at the Kane County Jail for several charges including unlawful possession of a weapon and stolen vehicle following a June 3 traffic accident. According to a release from the St. Charles Police Department, police and fire department crews were called just after 9 a.m. to a report of an accident with injuries in the 1600 block of North Kirk Road, and one of the people involved in the crash reportedly had a handgun.
According to police, officers arrived and found a 2005 Kia Sportage and 2011 Toyota Camry in the middle of the road, both with heavy damage to the front ends. Police said further investigation showed the Kia had been headed southbound when it crossed the center line, and hit the northbound Toyota head-on. Police also learned a 2014 Ford van that had been traveling northbound was also involved, and had been side-swiped by the Kia just before the Kia hit the Toyota, according to the release.
Police said the driver of the Kia was identified as Jarvas S. Gordon, 31 years-old, from the 100 block of N. Kendall Street, Aurora, who according to a witness, got out of the car and dropped a handgun. No threats were made with the gun and no shots were fired, according to police, and officers recovered the weapon when they got to the scene.

An investigation determined the Kia Gordon was driving had been reported stolen out of Aurora earlier that day, according to police.
According to the release, Gordon reportedly showed signs of impairment and was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to Northwestern Medicine-Delnor Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Toyota and the Ford were treated by paramedics on scene and didn't need to be taken to the hospital, according to police.

Police said Gordon was released from the hospital Wednesday, June 5 and was taken to the Kane County Jail.
The release said the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation and approved felony charges against Gordon, including unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and aggravated DUI while license suspended or revoked. Gordon was also charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and illegal transportation of alcohol, according to a release.
His next court date is scheduled for June 13 in Kane County, according to the sheriff's office.
