Military Husband, Dad Surprises St. Charles Family

ST. CHARLES, IL — What a St. Charles woman thought was going to be a new grill, turned out to be something even better. WLS-TV reported Elizabeth Gerlach's husband, Lt. Rob Gerlach, has been in Kuwait for 10 months serving in the military, but came home Friday to surprise his wife and their 6-year-old children, Eva and Colin. Rob told his family he'd be home the first week of June, according to WLS-TV. Elizabeth told WLS-TV she thought the family was getting a new grill from Sears for her husband's service, but she soon found out their real surprise was on his way.

After the husband and wife were reunited, they went to Munhall Elementary School to surprise Eva and Colin during an assembly for a magic show. Colin told WLS-TV he thought it would be "more days for him to come home but the magician made daddy appear."
