Neighbor Tries To Put Out Garage Fire In St. Charles: Fire Dept.
What the fire department said is believed to have caused the accidental fire.
ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles Fire Department was sent to a reported detached garage fire at 1:21 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Fern Avenue, after a neighbor tried to extinguish the flames. According to the fire department, firefighters were at the scene two minutes after a 911 call was made, and found that the detached garage was indeed on fire. However, firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 20 minutes, and remained at the scene until an investigation into the incident was completed, according to a release from the fire department.
The fire department said no occupants were home at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, checked for any fire extension and ventilated smoke, according to a release.

The cause of the fire is said to be accidental, and is credited to the improper disposal of ashes from the fire pit, the department said.
Damage from the fire is being estimated at $25,000, and includes the garage structure, a vehicle that was parked in the garage and contents.
