New Snow Totals, Winter Weather Watch Issued For Kane County

Here is the latest from weather officials on Wednesday's winter storm.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — More than six inches of snow is possible across the Chicago area, including in McHenry County, as a winter storm is expected to hit the area hard on Wednesday.

According to the latest weather update from the National Weather Service, a winter storm watch will take effect Wednesday morning and is expected to remain in effect through late Wednesday night for the Chicago area.

Heavy snow, with snowfall rates of an inch per hour, is possible during the storm.

The highest snowfall rates are expected during the evening commute, when snowfall rates could exceed one inch per hour, according to weather officials. This could make travel difficult and create treacherous roads and hazardous conditions during the Wednesday evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Tuesday morning, no school closures have been reported in the Chicago area. Those wishing to keep an eye on school, business and other closures can do so on the Emergency Closing Center website.
