Philanthropist Doris Hunt Dies At Age 88
Doris Hunt was actively involved in charitable and philanthropic work for many years in Kane County.

A well-known St. Charles philanthropist has died at the age of 88. Doris Hunt passed away on Monday and funeral services have been set for next week. Doris, along with her husband, Max, who has since died, are credited with helping the St. Charles community in a variety of ways over the years, former Mayor Fred Norris told the Daily Herald.
The couple were responsible for launching new programs, reviving struggling organizations and fixing complaints from residents who would stop them on their daily walks, former Mayor Fred Norris recalled. They offered endless advice and assistance to their community members, he said, and they did so silently, without any fanfare or need for recognition.
When Max died, Doris continued to be actively involved in charitable and philanthropic work, the Daily Herald reports. Her obituary lists the many organizations she was involved in as well as her accomplishments:

She was a volunteer at Delnor Hospital, an active member of P.E.O. Chapter K.B., a founding member of the St. Charles Art and Music Festival, and CASA Kane County. Doris was an active supporter of Fox Valley Hospice, Tri-City Family Services, Lazarus House, and Riverwoods Christian Center. She was a Stephens Minister and choir member at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member since 1956. Doris was active in several Playmakers Productions, and as a lover of the arts, supported St. Charles Singers and Elgin Community College. Doris was a recipient of the William D. Barth Award for Human Services and a was honored, with her husband Max, by a sculpture on the St. Charles River Corridor reflecting and exemplifying volunteerism.
Visitation has been set for 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St. in St. Charles. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9 at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Avenue in St. Charles. Rev. Mary Zajac will officiate. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, CASA Kane County, and St. Charles Singers.
