Prairie Street To Close As Construction Starts

ST. CHARLES, IL — New water and sanitary sewer mains will be installed on Prairie Street from Randall Road to South 13th Street starting next week.

Work is expected to begin on Wednesday and will be completed by Nov. 30, according to a news release from the city of St. Charles. Underground construction is needed to complete the utility project and will require road and lane closures on Prairie Street, near Randall Road.

Between Sept. 4 and 20, Prairie Street at the east side of the Randall Road intersection will be closed to traffic as underground work is completed. From Sept. 20 through Nov. 1, Prairie Street will be reduced to one lane to accommodate removal of sections of the roadway, driveway approaches, curb and sidewalks.

And then from Nov. 1 through 30, crews will replace curb, sidewalks, aprons, roadways and complete landscape restoration. Signage will be installed to alert to changing traffic patterns, according to a news release.

Impacted residents and businesses have received notification about the project, and all businesses within the construction zone will remain open during the project, city officials said. Signs will be posted to alert drivers of detours and changing traffic patterns and more information can be found on the city's website.
