South Elgin Man Charged With DUI In Crash That Killed Woman
According to a news report, police said Amy Carlson, 25, of St. Charles was killed in the May 31 crash.
KANE COUNTY, IL — A South Elgin man remains in custody at the Kane County Jail and has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol after a May 31 crash that left a St. Charles woman dead, according to Kane County Chronicle. Erik McKay, of the 7N000 block of Smith Road, was charged Monday with aggravated DUI in an accident causing death, DUI of a combination of drugs and alcohol, driving on a suspended license and reckless homicide, for the death of 25-year-old Amy Carlson, the news report said.
According to the Chronicle, South Elgin police and firefighters from South Eglin and the Countryside Fire Protection District responded at 2:46 a.m., May 31, to a reported accident with injuries at the South McLean Boulevard and Stearns Road intersection. That's where first responders found one car involved in the crash. Carlson, who had to be extricated from the car by firefighters, died of her injuries.
Officials told the Chronicle that McKay was driving between 106 and 117 mph in a 45 mph zone when he lost control of his car. He reportedly smelled of alcohol and marijuana upon his arrest. His next court date is set for July 10.
