St. Charles City Council Split on Video Gambling
Mayor Ray Rogina is expected to cast a tiebreaking vote on the controversial issue at next week's meeting.

The St. Charles City Council is one week away from a final decision on video gambling, reports The Daily Herald.
Business owners and residents attended the Monday night council meeting to express their opposing views on the issue. After a tense session of debate, a 5-4 preliminary vote was taken in favor of lifting the ban. Excluded in the preliminary vote was Alderman Jo Krieger, who submitted a written statement informing the council of her intention to vote “no” on the proposition next week. Should that occur, the final decision will lie in the hands of Mayor Ray Rogina, who has previously expressed support in lifting the ban.
If the ban is lifted, St. Charles will enter into a three year trial period to see how video gambling fares in town. Aldermen will have the option to resume the ban after the trial period in April of 2018.
