Aldermen on Tuesday gave preliminary approval to ambitious plans meant to re-shape St. Charles downtown.

The plans call for a half-mile looking riverwalk that runs the Main Street bridge to Prairie Street and a variety of aquatic activities on the Fox River. The activities would include the addition of white-water rafting, kayaking and an in-the-river children’s splash pad, according to the Daily Herald.

While local officials have embraced the plan, the next question will be how to tack a 62-item to-do list and find funding sources, the newspaper reports.

“I don’t know where we’re going to get the money but it’s a nice plan,” Alderman William Turner told the Daily Herald.
