St. Charles Property Tax Hike To Be Voted On Next Month

Property taxes in St. Charles could increase by 3 percent starting next year if the city council OKs the measure on Dec. 4.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Homeowners in St. Charles could see a 3% increase 0n their property tax bill — which equates to $24 annually for the owner of a $300,000 home — if city officials approve the measure next month.

Shaw Local News Network is reporting the St. Charles Council approved the preliminary estimate on the tax levy at a Nov. 6 meeting, and the final tax levy ordinance is set to be voted on during a Dec. 4 city council meeting. If approved, the hike will take effect on property tax bills during the 2024 calendar year.

Among the reasons for the tax hike has to do with an increase in the required contributions by the city to pension funds for police and firefighters, according to the article.
