St. Charles Runners Finish 2023 Chicago Marathon

The 45th edition of the race featured more than 47,000 runners Sunday in Chicago, the most ever finishers in the history of the race.

ST. CHARLES, IL — In an edition filled with broken records, the 45th running of the Chicago Marathon on Saturday featured more than 47,000 runners, including several local St. Charles competitors. Race officials said it was the most runners to ever finish the 26.2-mile race.

Kelvin Kiptum, of Kenya, was the top male and overall finisher, clocking the first sub-2:01 marathon in an officially sanctioned competition with a world record time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. Sifan Hassan, of the Netherlands, set a new course record on the women's side with at time of 2:13:44.

In addition, Marcel Hug, of Switzerland, broke his own record set in last year's wheelchair race with a time of 1:22:37. Catherine Debrunner, also of Switzerland, set a new course record for women in the wheelchair division with a time of 1:38:44.
