Volunteers Plant Keystone Species Oak Trees

Fourth Year for Statewide Soil & Water Conservation District and Illinois Extension 4-H initiative

PLANTED! Twenty-five healthy white, red and bur oaks are in the ground at the Forest Preserve of Kane County's Johnson's Mound! Keeping the "Lone Tree" company in an agricultural field that is being restored to an oak savanah, KDSWCD/FPDKC staff, 4-H youth, U of I Master Gardeners, Johnson's Mound volunteer stewards and more braved a chilly wind to learn about FPDKC initiatives, find out more about what soil & water conservation districts do and earn 4-H stewardship hours.

Check out the upcoming Forest Preserve Centennial Celebration events, including another tree planting opportunity in this savanah on June 8 at https://kaneforestpreservefoundation.org/centennial

The AISWCD Forestry Committee & Illinois Extension 4-H partnered again for a 4th year of statewide tree planting. The goal is to raise awareness of oak forest decline in Illinois and across the Midwest & promote tree planting as an educational program.
