Residents at White Oak Manor describe years of lax rent enforcement followed by sudden crackdowns, while a local pastor says his offers to help cover back rent were ignored, leaving vulnerable tenants scrambling for housing in the cold.

• EVPL Red Bank holds event to celebrate old building before demolition (14news.com) — Evansville’s Red Bank branch of the Vanderburgh Public Library has officially closed, and its longtime building will soon be demolished to make way for a new facility expected in about two years. Westside families marked the transition with a farewell event featuring wall handprints and piñatas, giving kids and regulars one last memory before services move to a yet-to-be-announced temporary location next year.

• USI Women's Basketball approaches OVC Play leaning on defense (14news.com) — USI women’s basketball in Evansville is off to a 5-2 start and sharpening its defense as Ohio Valley Conference play approaches. Coaches and players say holding opponents under 60 points is their key goal, while the offense, led by junior forward Chloe Gannon, has been consistently productive. The Screaming Eagles host Middle Tennessee State at Liberty Arena on Sunday.
