📰 News we're reading

1. Tri-State Food Bank holding annual holiday food giveaway Friday (14news.com) — If you need extra help with holiday groceries, the Tri-State Food Bank is giving out 250 food kits Friday morning at both Central High School and Washington Square Mall in Evansville, no pre-registration required. Organizers say supplies may run out within an hour, but community donations have helped replace lost funding so more local families can enjoy a better holiday season.

2. Otters announce 2026 front office promotions and additions (city-countyobserver.com) — Evansville Otters fans will see several familiar faces stepping into bigger roles for the 2026 season, including new Assistant General Manager Jackson Pullen. The team also elevated former interns into key groundskeeping, sales, community relations, and fan engagement positions, and has opened applications for 2026 summer internships, underscoring a strong local pipeline from internships to full-time jobs.

3. Ascension St. Vincent Evansville awards $20,000 to Youth First (wbiw.com) — A $20,000 grant from Ascension St. Vincent Evansville will help keep Youth First mental health professionals and prevention programs in Catholic schools across the Evansville Diocese, including Mater Dei High School. Leaders say the support strengthens a safety net for students facing mental health, family, and substance-use challenges while expanding evidence-based services already embedded in local classrooms.

4. Tomes, Becker split as redistricting fails in the Indiana Senate (courierpress.com) — Evansville readers may notice their two state senators split as the Indiana Senate rejected a mid-decade redistricting plan that would have strongly favored Republicans in all nine congressional districts. Sen. Vaneta Becker of Evansville opposed the bill, while Sen. Jim Tomes backed it after tying his vote to support for Donald Trump and attending a fundraiser at an Evansville church.

5. Kentucky State University shooting: Bond set at $1M for parent charged with murder (ksro.com) — An Evansville man is being held on a $1 million cash bond after being charged with murder and first-degree assault in a deadly shooting at Kentucky State University. Authorities say the parent of two students is accused of opening fire during an on-campus altercation, killing one student and critically injuring another, with a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 16.
