Here are the top three stories today in Lafayette:
- Lafayette Jeff High's unified track team, which pairs students with intellectual disabilities with partner athletes, won the IHSAA unified track and field sectional meet on Saturday, May 20. The unified track team is in its 10th year under the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). (Journal & Courier)
- A 3-year-old child shot and injured two people in Lafayette on Thursday, May 18. The child got hold of a gun, and fired one round, hitting two people at an apartment complex, according to Lafayette Police Department Lieutenant Justin Hartman. The two victims of the shooting were the child's mother, and family friend 23-year-old Trayshaun Smith, who was visiting the apartment. Smith was arrested when police arrived on the scene in connection to an active murder warrant issued in Cook County, Illinois. (CNN)
- Ratepayers are now being allowed comment on the Indiana American Water Company's (IAW) pending rate case. The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) invites consumers to give written comments for the official case record between now and Jul. 5. The OUCC will be reviewing the IAW's proposal and is scheduled to file its official testimony with the IURC on Jul. 23. IAW's proposed increases would raise water rates in three phases between January 2024 and April 2025, increasing its total annual operating revenues by $86.7 million. (Daily Journal)

- The City of Lafayette congratulated Tom Murtaugh, Bison Financial Group's 2022 Crystal Bison Award winner. Tom was recognized for his many years of dedicated service as a volunteer with Greater Lafayette Commerce and United Way of Greater Lafayette.
