Scott County Sheriff's Office: Swearing In And Promotional Ceremony

On Monday, August 16, 2021 at 0900, the Scott County Sheriff's Office will hold a Swearing In Ceremony and Promotional Ceremony at the Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 3206 South 16th Avenue in Eldridge.

Landon Slagle and Samantha Johannes have been hired as the newest deputy sheriffs for Scott County and Sergeant Dan Furlong and Deputy Greg Hill will be promoted.

Samantha Johannes grew up in Rockford, Illinois, and graduated from Auburn High School where she wrestled and played softball. Samantha attended Rock Valley College and then enlisted in the Army Reserves as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. Samantha attended training in Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Lee and is currently a ranked specialist.  Samantha married her husband Jeremy in 2018, relocated to Davenport in 2018 and the couple has two young sons. Samantha graduated from Scott Community College with an Associate’s Degree in arts with a concentration in criminal justice in May, 2021. Samantha’s hobbies include snowmobiling, boating and jet skiing.

Sergeant Dan Furlong will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Dan Furlong graduated from St. Ambrose University in 2003 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice.  Dan worked as a correctional officer with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office from 2004 until 2005 and was hired by the Maquoketa, Iowa Police Department. Dan returned to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in 2008.  He joined the Special Operations Unit in 2010 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant of the Special Operations Unit in 2017. Dan will be assigned to third shift Patrol.

Greg Hill will be promoted to the rank of sergeant. Greg was raised in Camanche, IA and graduated from Camanche High School.  After high school Greg attended Kirkwood Community College where he earned an Associate’s degree in criminal justice. Greg continued his education by attending Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and administration and a minor in computer science.  After graduation, Greg worked on his family dairy farm and another farm in the Eldridge area before being hired by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in June of 2008.  In 2013 Greg became a narcotics agent at the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group for 5 1/2 years, which included being a supervisor for 2 1/2 years.  During that time Greg also became a canine handler for the Sheriff’s Office where he was partnered up with his canine, Spike, who is still an active member of the Sheriff’s Office. In 2018 Greg returned to patrol as a third shift patrol deputy until 2019 when he join the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit. In Greg’s spare time he can be found working around the house, spending time with family and friends, and in a boat, bass fishing. Greg will continue on in the Special Operations Unit.
