Redefining the Patient Experience in Overland Park
Nextera Breaks Down the Barriers with 24/7 Access to Proactive, Personalized Care for Member Patients
It’s not your imagination: the healthcare system is ailing. The average wait to see a physician is now 29 days, appointment times have declined to 18 minutes,* and ERs are packed with rising numbers of patients needing essential but non-emergency care.
The direct primary care approach at the new Overland Park Nextera Healthcare clinic offers a patient experience that is different, and better, in every way. Appointments are easily scheduled, start promptly, and are never rushed; no co-pays or deductibles are required; and peace of mind is assured with 24/7 access to dedicated physicians who know each member of their practice well.
“My goal has always been to take a patient-centered, collaborative approach, empowering individuals to achieve their best possible health,” says Dr. Rebekah Abbott, family medicine physician. “At Nextera, this is how I’m able to practice every day, with time to treat not just acute issues but to focus on preventive care and chronic disease management. Most importantly, I am building deep, trusted relationships by thoroughly exploring their health history, wellness goals, what keeps them up at night…everything that affects their well-being.”

As patients like H.W. can attest, the connections made are genuine and powerful. “I’ve been seeing Dr. Abbott for years and can't imagine ever switching doctors,” she writes. “She always advocates for me, a great doctor who listens and truly cares about her patients.”
For Dr. Nida Dillon, the opportunity to spend more time with patients at each visit is what drew her to Nextera’s Overland Park clinic. “Anyone can find disease,” she maintains, “but finding health should be the doctor’s objective. Now I have the time to fully understand what my patients need to live healthier, happier lives.”

Affirms patient W.W.: “Dr. Dillon is an amazing doctor. She listens, makes you comfortable, resourceful in treatment options, and is good at digging in to find the problem.”
Knowing patients can easily reach them after hours is vital to both doctors. “I consider my patients as part of my extended family,” explains Dr. Dillon, “and nothing is more rewarding than being available when they need me most.” Adds Dr. Abbott: “With 24/7 access via phone, email or mobile app, our members avoid endless waits in an ER for sprains, lacerations, broken bones, respiratory infections and other issues that can be quickly treated in our office.”
Nextera Healthcare (a model known as direct primary care, or DPC) puts the patient back at the center of medicine, emphasizing access, convenience, and one-on-one time, while eliminating concerns about insurance costs at each appointment. A monthly membership fee covers all office and virtual visits, exams, and a full complement of primary care services, including: acute care, chronic disease management, sleep hygiene assessments, mental health treatment, weight management, allergy management, school/sports/workplace physicals, and discounted imaging and laboratory services.
