- Since 2010, the Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity-based organization at Western Kentucky University has been cycling approximately 3,500 miles from San Francisco to Virginia Beach to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's disease through their "Bike4Alz" campaign. Along the way, they organize fundraising events in each community they pass through and emphasize the impact of Alzheimer's on Americans. The group's efforts support the Alzheimer's Association, and the cyclists found comfort and support in visiting their families and friends in Bowling Green over the weekend before continuing their journey. - A Bowling Green police officer was critically wounded after being shot multiple times. Officer Matt Davis is now in stable condition after being airlifted to a local hospital, while a male subject involved in the shooting was pronounced dead at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. The incident's details leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed as of Sunday, but the local community's support and response were commended by Bowling Green Police Chief Michael Delaney. - A project began over the weekend to repave and reconfigure a section of the U.S. 31-W bypass in Bowling Green. The 1.5-mile stretch between U.S. 231 University Drive and Lehman Avenue will undergo the transformation from a four-lane road to a three-lane road with a two-way center turn lane and bike lanes, aiming to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and create a safer corridor. Motorists should anticipate lane closures in the area for the next two weeks as the project progresses, which also includes wider travel lanes, enhanced pedestrian safety, and signal configuration improvements at key intersections.
