Here are the top three stories in Bowling Green today:
- Saturday's Bowling GreenCon brought fandoms together. The event was held at the National Corvette Museum and allowed comic, movie, and video game fans to come together for a day of fun. Those who took part in the event were able to play in Super Smash Brothers tournaments and cosplay contests and shop around at the various vendor booths. Visitors said the con was a great family-friendly event for them to enjoy comic culture in a safe environment. (WBKO)
- Beshear kicked off his reelection campaign with a stop in Bowling Green on Friday. Gov. Andy Beshear was greeted by his supporters with chants of "four more years." The governor said that Western Kentucky is important in his reelection and that he needs Bowling Green's help to continue his work in the state to keep job growth and job opportunities flowing for the people. Besides his record-low unemployment rate, he also discussed his goal to continue giving pay raises to teachers. In November's general election, he will face Republican nominee Attorney General Daniel Cameron. (WKU Public Radio)
- The Bowling Green Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) conducted its annual "Peace Officer Memorial Service" on Friday, paying tribute to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. FOP treasurer, Mike Nade, and Warren County Judge Executive Doug Gorman expressed gratitude and respect for fallen officers, including Officer Areanah Preston from Chicago, emphasizing the importance of supporting and recognizing the positive contributions of law enforcement. The FOP also awarded scholarships to high school seniors with family ties to law enforcement, acknowledging their academic achievements. (WBKO)
