Here are the top 3 stories today in Bowling Green:
- The 23rd annual Great Teddy Bear Run was held in Bowling Green to raise funds for the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center. Bikers from all over participated to help the organization, which provided services like medical examinations, mental health support, and a sense of support for over a thousand victims of child sexual abuse in 2022. The bikers collected teddy bears and drove across the city to deliver them to children in need, bringing comfort and support to those who have been through difficult times. (WBKO)
- A Bowling Green business owner, Fejzuleh Avdic, and one of his clients, Bridgett Burris, pleaded guilty to a single count of honest services fraud, and they are set to be sentenced Monday in federal court. Avdic owned Stryker Logistics, which provided trucking services for Constellium, where Burris worked. Burris secretly accepted payments from Avdic in exchange for him providing business to her company. According to federal court records, Avdic paid Burris a total of $750,800, and Stryker Logistics received over $14 million in contracts from Constellium. Prosecutors are seeking a 27-month prison sentence for Avdic and an unspecified amount of prison time for Burris. (Bowling Green Daily News)
- Potter Children’s Home and Family Ministries broke ground this past weekend on a new quadplex apartment building to provide more affordable and accessible housing for families in need. The new building is part of the Single Parent Alliance for Raising Kids program, which supports single parents and families through education, counseling, and mentoring. The expansion was made possible by an anonymous donor, and the City of Bowling Green's recent allocation of $2 million for affordable housing greatly helps organizations like Potter Children's Home. - In case you missed it: Warren County is no longer under a burn ban. Warren County judge-executive Doug Gorman has lifted the burn ban, according to the Warren County Fiscal Court.
