The future of Bowling Green is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Alexis Elder, who are making a positive impact in and around Bowling Green.
Alexis, a recent graduate of Western Kentucky University (WKU) with a degree in Elementary Education, is making a global impact as a 2024-25 Fulbright US Student Program grantee. Alexis, a Louisville native and member of the Mahurin Honors College, has been awarded an English Teaching Assistantship in Spain, where she is applying her extensive educational training and passion for diversity, equity and inclusion. A Teaching English as a Second Language minor, she brings experience from working in Bowling Green schools, considered a refugee resettlement hub.
Alexis’s journey toward this opportunity is rooted in her Kentuckian experiences, including participation in the Governor’s Scholars Program in high school and leadership roles in Kappa Delta sorority, where she served as Vice President for Inclusion. Her time at WKU also included serving as a Literacy Ambassador and presenting at the Higher EDquity Symposium on inclusive education. After her Fulbright year, Alexis plans to return to Kentucky to teach and pursue further studies in educational leadership, bringing her cross-cultural insights to her future classrooms.
