Police quickly arrested a 28-year-old suspect, who is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center while charges are pending, and the investigation continues.

2. Reindeer Express powers through the cold at the Nest, responding to the need of 1,700 kids (lex18.com) — A beloved Lexington tradition, the Nest’s Reindeer Express just braved snow and cold to provide toys, warm clothing, and food boxes for about 1,700 local kids. Volunteers and partner churches helped parents shop for gifts tailored to their children, and organizers plan an extra day so families who missed the giveaway can still get support.

3. Hannah LeGris accepts new position after deciding to not run for re-election (fox56news.com) — Lexington Councilmember Hannah LeGris will leave the Urban County Council on Jan. 9, 2026 to become Access and Engagement Officer in the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. Mayor Linda Gorton will appoint an interim councilmember within 30 days, while LeGris focuses on improving accessibility, training, and public engagement for Lexington residents in her new role.

4. Running out of time: USPS shares final shipping deadlines for Christmas delivery (wtvq.com) — Lexington residents are up against the clock if they want Christmas packages to arrive on time, with USPS advising standard shipments be mailed by next Wednesday. Priority Mail extends that to Thursday, and Priority Mail Express to Saturday, though none are guaranteed. Locals sending gifts outside the continental U.S. should allow an extra day or two for travel.

5. A new way to engage kids in aviation (generalaviationnews.com) — Lexington Middle School students turned a Blue Grass Airport snowplow blade into a colorful aviation-themed artwork called “Hands That Dream,” now displayed in the terminal’s upper atrium. The project gave eighth graders a behind-the-scenes airport tour while highlighting Lexington’s diverse school community and how art can connect local students to real-world aviation careers.
