LOUISVILLE, KY — The University of Louisville is hiring Kenny Payne as its next men's basketball coach, according to an ESPN report.
The university is expected to announce Payne's hiring at a news conference Friday morning, according to the report.
It will be Payne's first head coaching position after serving as an assistant coach for the University of Oregon, University of Kentucky and the New York Knicks since 2004. He was the associate head coach under John Calipari at Kentucky from 2014 to 2020 before joining the Knicks' staff.

Payne played basketball at Louisville from 1985 to 1989 and was the 19th overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. He played four seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.
