1. Three Louisiana cities among the neediest in the U.S. says WalletHub (shreveporttimes.com) — Shreveport is ranked the third neediest city in the country, with sharp increases in homelessness, high poverty rates for both adults and children, and serious food insecurity, according to WalletHub. The study also highlights troubling gaps in internet access and a high suicide rate. New Orleans and Baton Rouge also appear on the list, but Shreveport fares worst in Louisiana.
   

2. Crime down in Shreveport, Bossier City (ktbs.com) — New data show overall crime is down in both Shreveport and Bossier City, but domestic violence-related homicides and fatal traffic crashes remain serious concerns locally. Shreveport police report about 4,000 domestic violence calls this year and rising crash deaths, even as they seize more than 1,200 illegal guns and Bossier City sees a 25% crime drop.
   

3. Teaching emotional skills to reduce violence in Shreveport (ktalnews.com) — A new conflict resolution and de-escalation workshop at Sheriff’s Safety Town is teaching Shreveport-area students how to manage anger and avoid fights, which police hope will reduce city violence over time. Led by Shreveport Police Sgt. Shannon Hicks, the program focuses on emotional awareness, self-control, and practical tools students say they’re already using in real-life situations.
   

4. Birthday girl wins KTBS 3 Minute Smile toy dash (ktbs.com) — A Shreveport Walmart at Shreve City turned into a birthday dream for 9-year-old Keylani Johnson, who grabbed more than $2,000 in toys during KTBS’s 3 Minute Smile dash. The Marshall, Texas second grader, celebrating her ninth birthday, is this year’s ninth winner, with two more local toy runs still to come this week.
   

5. Shreveport synagogue finds hope amid grief during Hanukkah after deadly attack (ksla.com) — B’nai Zion congregants in Shreveport are observing Hanukkah with mixed emotions after a deadly attack on a celebration in Sydney, Australia. Their rabbi reflects on grief, the holiday’s message of hope, and the powerful interfaith support Shreveport’s Jewish community is feeling from Christian, Muslim, and other neighbors.
