Here are the key takeaways from Shreveport's 2026 budget (shreveporttimes.com) — Shreveport’s newly approved 2026 city budget raises all hourly city workers to at least $15 and gives police and firefighters a 5% pay bump starting May 1. The $709.4 million operating plan also funds millions in new public safety vehicles and over $34 million in street, drainage, and water-sewer upgrades that residents will see across the city.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office holds free CPR training (ksla.com) — The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office just offered free CPR and first aid training to Shreveport residents at Sheriff’s Safety Town, stressing that bystanders are often the true first responders. Participants of all ages practiced compressions and breaths on mannequins, learning how quick action in those first minutes can dramatically improve a cardiac arrest victim’s chances of survival.
   

3. Shreveport police report increase in traffic crashes this year (ksla.com) — Shreveport drivers are seeing more crashes this year, with police responding to over 7,550 wrecks and reporting increases in fatal, major, minor, and hit-and-run accidents. SPD says distracted driving, speeding, and pedestrians in the roadway are key factors, and officers continue to lead the state in DWI arrests while urging residents to stay alert and drive courteously.
   

4. Neighbors 500 feet from proposed data center location weigh in (ktbs.com) — West Shreveport residents living about 500 feet from a proposed data center are raising questions about noise, infrastructure strain, and property values as details remain limited. Neighbors are organizing meetings, while Caddo Parish commissioners, stakeholders, and the City Council plan public sessions this week before a key land-grant permit vote.
   

5. Caddo Parish district attorney gives bikes to students (ktbs.com) — Hundreds of Shreveport elementary students are riding into the holidays on brand-new bikes, thanks to Caddo Parish District Attorney James Stewart. He delivered 157 bikes to Walnut Hill Elementary and 90 more to J.S. Clark Elementary, stressing joy, encouragement, and community support for kids who promised to listen to their parents and teachers.
