"Montgomery County is actively coordinating with wireless providers as they work to quickly resolve this issue," the agency said.

The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management also said it was monitoring the outage.

"As a result, some devices may be showing 'No Signal' or 'SOS' mode. The outage appears to be sporadic across the country, not any specific area," Anne Arundel County officials wrote.
An estimated time for service restoration has not been provided by Verizon. Emergency calls to 911 should remain functional."

Baltimore City officials also said they were aware of the outage, but didn't say if it was affecting emergency communications.

"If you can’t reach emergency services using a Verizon device, use another carrier, a landline, or go to a nearby police district or fire station," officials wrote.

Other U.S. cities where significant outages were reported include Philadelphia, New York City, Miami and Atlanta.

In a follow-up tweet, Verizon said: "Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions. Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible."
