Investigators Looking Into Officer-Involved Shooting Of Knife-Wielding Man

The attorney general's office is looking into an officer-involved shooting of a man holding a knife, according to the IID.

OXON HILL, MD — The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday in Oxon Hill.

The preliminary investigation showed that on April 20 at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department were called to the 100 block of St. George Blvd. in Oxon Hill (National Harbor) after receiving a 911 call for a report of a shooting or cutting at that location. Officers found a man with a knife and even though they gave the man verbal commands, he did not comply and moved toward one of the officers with the knife. The officer backed away and he and another officer shot their service weapons, hitting the man. He was able to turn and walk several feet before collapsing on the ground, according to the attorney general's office. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance camera and private dashboard footage shows what transpired between the officers and the man, officials stated. The IID has not yet released the name of the man or the involved officers. The officers on scene were equipped with body-worn cameras that recorded the incident. The IID typically releases body-worn camera footage within 20 business days of an incident.
