Suspect Arrested In Walker Mill Regional Park Fatal Shooting

The friend of a shooting victim found injured in Walker Mill Regional Park has been arrested in connection to the man's death.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal shooting that happened last November at Walker Mill Regional Park, which is located in the 7700 block of Walker Mill Road.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, on Nov. 8, 2024, around 5:50 p.m., Maryland-National Capital Park Police and PGPD officers were called to the park for a report of a shooting. They found 43-year-old Morris Haskins, Jr. of Washington, D.C., who was outside with a gunshot wound. He died of his injuries the following day, the police department stated.

Thanks to a tip provided to Prince George’s County Crime Solvers, investigators were able to identify 24-year-old Elijah Kamara of no fixed address as the suspect, according to the PGPD. On April 14, a police officer stopped a vehicle at Walters Lane and Chavez Lane where they found Kamara, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Kamara attempted to take off on foot, but was apprehended by officers without incident, according to the police department.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Kamara shot Haskins during an argument. The suspect and victim knew each other. Kamara has been charged with first-degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
