Laurel Academic Honors: Bowie State Dean's List, KU Honor Roll

Bowie State University: Numerous Laurel-area students were named to Bowie State University's Dean's List for outstanding academic accomplishments in the fall 2012 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program and earn a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale in regular, graded courses. Frostburg State University: At the 141st commencement ceremonies at Frostburg State University in December, the following Laurel-area residents were among the nearly 480 total candidates for degrees:

• Ashlan Foster of Laurel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology
• Michael Iheakanwa of Laurel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology
• Hamid Segunmaru of Laurel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science
• Kelly Taylor of Laurel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication

Merrimack College: Two Laurel residents were recently named to the Fall 2012 Deans' List at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. To be named to the Deans' List, a student must achieve a 3.25 grade point average or higher, based on a 4.0 grading system:

• James Strickland of Laurel is a Freshman in the School of Science and Engineering
• Colleen Baxley of Laurel is a Freshman in the School of Liberal Arts

Notre Dame of Maryland University: Notre Dame of Maryland University has named the following Laurel residents to the Fall 2012 Dean's list:

• Christine Baumgarten of Laurel
• Ajiri Eroraha of Laurel
• Roberta Goldenpenny of Laurel
• Katherine Reading of Laurel

Southwestern University: Jeanette Brown of Laurel has been named to the Dean's List at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, for the fall 2012 semester. To be selected, students must have at least a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale with at least 12 graded hours and be in good standing with the university.

University of Kansas: More than 4,450 undergraduate students at the University of Kansas earned honor roll distinction for the fall 2012 semester, including Alexander Pendleton of Laurel. He is the son of Michael and Vibeke Pendleton of Laurel. He attended New Mexico Military Institute. Pendleton, a senior at KU, was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

University of the Sciences: Mital Patel of Laurel has been named to the fall 2012 Dean's List at University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a "C" and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the fall of 2012. Patel is a pharmacology and toxicology student.
