Community Remembers Deceased McDonogh Student

Alec Cosgarea died in a Monday night car crash in Lutherville.

Community members are mourning the , an Owings Mills resident who was killed in a car crash in Lutherville on Monday night. 

Friends and well-wishers shared memories and kind words on a Facebook page called "In Memorial of Alec John Cosgarea," which honors the memory of the 17-year-old rising senior at McDonogh School.

"Those who knew and loved you, whether it be in passing or as a result of many years of growth in the McDonogh community and beyond, are shattered," wrote Facebook user Danny Brill on the page. "A dear presence is absent in all of us."

The page has 590 members as of 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

"We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family including his brothers Will '14 and Drew '11. Alec was a joyful young man who spent countless hours swimming for McDonogh and that North Baltimore Aquatic Club. In the classroom his teachers called him, 'a quiet leader, with a strong sense of character,'" officials stated in a news release.

Alec Cosgarea's Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in North Baltimore, according to the release. The service location was changed from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Community.
