80-Year-Old Woman Dies In Millers Island Fire, Smoking May Have Been Factor

An 80-year-old woman died in a Millers Island house fire. Investigators identified the victim and said smoking may have been involved.

EDGEMERE, MD — An 80-year-old woman died recently after her Edgemere home caught on fire, officials said.

Firefighters identified the victim as Georgia Norris.

Investigators haven't determined the cause of the fire, but they think improperly discarded smoking materials may have been involved. They didn't say who may have discarded their smoking materials improperly. The house did not have working smoke detectors, a press release said.

Crews said they were called Thursday to the 8900 block of Millers Island Boulevard at 6:07 p.m. That's located in the waterfront Millers Island neighborhood.

Units said they arrived six minutes later and found flames coming from the back of the house.

The release said Baltimore County Police Department officers helped two residents escape the back of the home before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters said they then searched the house for a third resident who was reported missing.

Responders said they found the victim dead in a bedroom.

This is the county's second fire death of 2025.
