Signs To Warn of 'Potentially Hazardous' Perry Hall Road

UPDATE (Dec. 13, 3:305 p.m.)—Signs will soon warn drivers to slow down along Miller Road.

Between Pepper Hill Road and Belair Road, along Miller Road in the Perry Hall Manor neighborhood, a steep hill meets the road's edge in a jagged ditch and stream. The hill is located in the westernmost property area of a nearby farm.

At the request of area residents, signs will be installed to warn drivers to slow down in the "potentially hazardous" area, County Councilman David Marks stated.

The Baltimore County Department of Public Works has already performed an on-site inspection and the signs will likely be installed by the end of the year.

"The Perry Hall Manor area sits on the ridge line near the Gunpowder River, which means it has numerous hills," Marks stated in an email to Patch. "I am pleased that the county will erect warning signs to remind motorists to slow down on this stretch of Miller Road."

Vickie Sobczak was one of the area residents who requested the signs.

In an email to Patch, Sobczak detailed some of her concerns about the stretch:

The whole road is hazardous; it is windy and narrow. Sometimes people almost push you off the road coming from the other direction, and if you're coming down the hill on the 'stream' side, there's nowhere to pull over. However, the most dangerous section is at the top of the hill where the farm ends and the development begins. You cannot see oncoming traffic from either direction until you are on top of each other. Some people don't bother to slow down and approach the hill in a cautious manner. I have almost been hit head-on several times. I'm surprised there has not been a serious accident there yet.
