Solar Eclipse Draws Warning From Baltimore County Schools
Baltimore County schools won't close early for the solar eclipse. The eclipse overlaps with normal dismissal, but there's a safety warning.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools won't dismiss early for Monday's partial solar eclipse.
Classes will continue on their normal schedules. All BCPS school dismissals overlap with some part of the eclipse, drawing a warning from leaders.
"Never look directly at the sun, especially during a solar eclipse," BCPS said in a Wednesday community letter verified by Patch. "It is dangerous to look directly at the sun and it can cause permanent damage to the eyes. Do not look at the sun through sunglasses, telescope, or binoculars."

BCPS also encouraged families to check that their eclipse-viewing glasses conform to all standards from the International Organization for Standardization.
There have been reports of counterfeit glasses, so the American Astronomical Society provided this list of companies known to conform to ISO standards.
