White Marsh Elementary School's Video Wins Big With BGE

Vincent Farm Elementary won $10,000 in Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's first Wires Down Video Challenge.

Safety messages don't have to be boring.

Vincent Farm Elementary School put their own spin on Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's request that kids "do not, do not, do not touch" downed power lines.

Competing against 28 elementary schools across the central Maryland region, the White Marsh school won $10,000 for their own rendition of BGE’s Emmy-award winning "Wires Down" electric safety commercial, Baltimore County Public Schools announced Thursday.

Videos were loaded onto the BGE website and more than 65,000 votes were cast to choose the schools moving to the second round of voting. Of those schools, a panel of judges selected the eight winning schools, with Vincent Farm Elementary coming out on top.

"The Wires Down Video Challenge was created to provide educators with a fun and creative way for students to not only learn about electric safety, but to also share that information with their families and friends, while promoting teamwork and school spirit at the same time," BCPS officials stated in a release.
