• Sleighs, cars and even trains once crossed the frozen Susquehanna [from the archives] (centredaily.com) — Longtime residents may be intrigued to learn that in 1852 the Susquehanna’s ice between Perryville and Havre de Grace was thick enough for workers to lay temporary railroad tracks and run freight and passenger cars across it. The feature revisits many dramatic moments when the river froze solid, from sleighs and cars on the ice to today’s warmer winters and increased safety concerns.
