Kura Revolving Sushi Bar To Open First MD Location

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar — which delivers plates of food via a conveyor belt — will open its first Maryland location this weekend.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Kura Revolving Sushi Bar — which delivers plates of food via a conveyor belt — will open its first Maryland location in Rockville's Federal Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The restaurant at 12266 Rockville Pike is opening in half of the space that was the former home of Chuy’s, MoCo 360 reported. The other half of the venue now houses Torchy’s Tacos, which opened Wednesday.

Kura Sushi call itself an "eater-tainment" destination that combines authentic Japanese cuisine with interactive dining. With more than 100 dishes served via a two-layered conveyor belt system, guests enjoy food enhanced by drink delivery robots, Kur-B the KuraBot, and Bikkura Pon prizes.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar will be soft opening on Saturday with special hours through Monday, Oct. 7, from noon to 9 p.m.

Regular business hours will start Oct. 8: Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The first 50 seated dine-in guests on Oct. 8-10 who show their Kura Sushi Rewards Member QR code will receive one sushi towel.

A news release said the first 300 seated dine-in guests on Oct. 8 will receive a commemorative Rockville location sticker.

Dine on premium sushi for $3.70 per plate, other plate prices will vary.

The growing chain has 66 restaurants in 21 states. Other locations in the region are at 614 H St. NW Suite 100, in Washington, D.C., and 8461 Leesburg Pike Suite C, in Tysons, Virginia.

The Revolving Sushi Bar allows diners to select dishes as they pass by, as well as an Express Belt for selective orders delivered table side. Each sushi plate is the same set price per location. Kura also offers udon, ramen, side dishes and desserts.

The restaurant will be in soft opening mode Saturday through Monday and be open noon to 9 p.m. each day. MoCo 360 said that starting Tuesday, Oct. 8, the restaurant will follow its regular business hours:

  • Monday through Thursday, open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Friday, open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday, open from noon to 9:30 p.m.

"It is our philosophy and ongoing promise to prepare food using REAL ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings," Kura said in a news release.

All menu items, including alcoholic beverages (where legal), can be ordered for pick-up and delivery in advance through the Kura Sushi App or via order.kurasushi.com.

Customers are asked to make the restaurant aware of any food allergies when placing an order; not all ingredients are listed on the order panel. The restaurant is not an allergen or gluten-free environment.

Since the first restaurant opening in 1977, Kura Sushi, Inc. has grown to operate more than 500 locations across Japan, Taiwan and the United States.

"We pay particular attention to ingredients, taste, and preparation for all of our dishes," the company said. "Our philosophy of “muten” or “nothing added” is an ongoing promise that our food is prepared using fresh, high quality ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings."
