• CVS to Close Permanently on February 17 (mocoshow.com) — A CVS on Gramercy Boulevard in the Rockville/Derwood Westside at Shady Grove community will permanently close on February 17, ending a short run that began in mid-2023. The piece also notes other recent closures nearby and reports that Rockville favorite Fontina Grille plans to relocate to the development in fall 2026, bringing new life to the area.
   

• New Public Service Commission chair aims to reduce energy costs (mymcmedia.org) — Rockville resident Kumar Barve has been appointed chair of the Maryland Public Service Commission, putting a local voice in charge of regulating key utilities that affect your energy bills. Barve, a longtime District 17 delegate, says he’ll focus on keeping rates affordable while modernizing the grid and supporting sustainability. The commission oversees electric, gas, water, telecom, and some transportation services statewide.
   

• Driver Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Fatal DUI Crash (mocoshow.com) — A Rockville resident was killed in a June 2024 DUI crash on I-495, and the driver has now been sentenced to three years in prison plus probation. Montgomery County prosecutors detailed how the alcohol-impaired driver lost control on a Silver Spring ramp, causing a multi-vehicle collision that fatally injured the 30-year-old passenger.
