Peter Chang Restaurant Closes, Reopening By New Owner Set: Reports

ROCKVILLE, MD — Renowned chef Peter Chang has sold his Rockville restaurant to an employee, who plans to reopen the location as Kung Fu Kitchen, a report said.

The restaurant has operated for nine years at 20-A Maryland Ave. on the Rockville town square, Store Reporter said. The site didn't name the new owner, but said the business will continue to serve Chang favorite dishes as well as new offerings.

The dining room will be closed for renovations over several weeks, but takeout service will operate until a planned reopening sometime in June.

Last month, Chang held a grand opening for his new Chinese tapas-style menu of small, shareable plates offered. Peter Chang Gaithersburg opened at 637 N. Frederick Ave. in what had been Ichiban Restaurant, MOCO Show said.

Chef's special items on theGaithersburg location's menu include: Chengdu garlic steamed pork, Xi'an cold-skin noodles, Chengdu spicy mouth-watering chicken and Sichuan beef jerky.
Chang is at the helm of about a dozen restaurants across Virginia, Maryland and Connecticut, WTOP said.

His first DC restaurant, Dupont Circle’s Chang Chang, was added to the Michelin Guide last year. Chang was a 2022 James Beard Awardfinalist for outstanding chef, and a nominee for the honor three other years.

Other Peter Chang locations in the D.C. metro include Arlington and Rockville, Columbia, and Q by Peter Chang in Bethesda. Chang’s NiHao, a casual Chinese sit-down and takeout restaurant in Baltimore, will open a site in Crystal City later this year.
