The Department of Environmental Protection agency (DPA) officials are still on the scene cleaning up, after fuel spilled from the truck in the collision, said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Captain Oscar Garcia.

Around 10:35 a.m., MCFRS was called to the 10300 Block of Colesville to assist on the scene after a Toyota and pick-up truck collided, he added.

But after fire and rescue officials observed a fuel spill they immediately put an absorbent material on the spilled fuel to stop it from entering storm drains and streams. They called the DPA to clean up the material afterwards.

“One of the fuel tanks from the trucks leaked 35 to 45 gallons,” said Garcia.

It’s still uncertain who was at fault for the two-car collision, but one person was sent to a local hospital for a non life-threatening injury, he said.

Original story, 12:22 p.m.

All lanes of northbound Rt. 29 near Rt. 193 are closed due to an accident that occurred around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, State Highway Administration Spokesman Charlie Gischlar said. Only the right southbound lane is getting by, he said.

“It’s a real mess there,” Gischlar said.

There were no fatalities, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesman Oscar Garcia said. Fire trucks have left the scene.

The accident involved a truck and a car. The truck, which is being removed from the scene, is labeled as belonging to Environmental Alternatives Inc., a construction and demolition debris removal service located in Clarksville.

SHA is on the scene diverting traffic with message signs and helping with cleanup, he said. Gischlar suggested motorists use Rt. 193 to get around the accident.
