County Adds 69 Coronavirus Cases; Test Positivity Rate Hits 2.95%

Montgomery County added 69 new coronavirus cases and zero new deaths on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County registered 69 new coronavirus cases and zero new deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

Tuesday's update brings the countywide total to 18,558 infections and 764 fatalities. Another 39 may have died from COVID-19 — the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus — but a laboratory test is still needed to confirm the cause of death.

The county — which is home to roughly 1.1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 24,009, according to the latest figures.

Statewide, there have been 96,843 confirmed cases, 3,467 deaths, and 137 "confirmed deaths."

Of the 529 people currently hospitalized, 121 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The state has conducted more than 1,485,000 coronavirus tests to date. The positivity rate now stands at 3.54 percent. In comparison, Montgomery County's test positivity rate is 2.95 percent.
