Driver In Fatal Street-Racing Crash Charged With Vehicular Homicide

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring man accused of street racing in Rockville has been indicted on vehicular homicide and other criminal charges after another died in a crash, authorities said Tuesday.

A Montgomery County grand jury indicted Aaron Givens, 33, on negligent homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle and driving a vehicle in a race/speed contest. Givens turned himself in to Montgomery County Police on March 4 after an arrest warrant was issued.

About 2:23 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2023, police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue were called to the area of West Gude Drive and Watkins Pond Boulevard in Rockville for a crash involving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 driven by Romario Coke, 28, of Silver Spring.

Police said Coke was driving eastbound on West Gude Drive at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car and it struck a tree in the center median. Coke was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned Coke was racing with a Ram 1500 TRX pickup driven by Givens, leading to the indictment.

Givens was released on an unsecured personal bond.
