Got Drugs? Get Rid Of Them In Silver Spring This Weekend
Silver Spring residents can safely get rid of unused drugs for free during an upcoming collection.

SILVER SPRING, MD — If you've been holding on to unused prescription drugs, now's the time to get rid of them with no questions asked. The Montgomery County Police Department is once again participating in "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" to collect unused drugs on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Collections will happen between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Residents can stop by multiple locations throughout Montgomery County to anonymously turn in expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medications.
"This is a safe, free and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs and is part of a national effort to prevent the increasing problems of prescription drug abuse and theft that continues to occur nationwide," police said in a press release.

These locations will accept prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications only. Liquids, illicit drugs, needles, sharps and syringes cannot be accepted as part of this take-back program.
Officers will staff collection boxes in the parking lots of the following facilities or in facility lobbies in and around Silver Spring:

- Silver Spring: MCP 3rd District Station at Milestone Drive
- Silver Spring: Fire Station 1 on Georgia Avenue
- Wheaton: MCP 4th District Station at Randolph Road
- Takoma Park: Takoma Park Police at Takoma Park City Lobby, 7500 Maple Ave.
There are other safe ways to throw away unused medications any other time of the year. The Food and Drug Administration warns individuals to not flush medications, unless it is stated in disposal instructions. Throwing medications in the trash is ok, as long as you follow certain steps to ensure people or animals will not accidentally encounter the drugs.
